Originally hailing from Kenosha, WI the last 11 years have found me calling Nashville, TN home base. During my time in Nashville, I spent my formative years getting a degree, making friends, finding a beautiful wife and on a second run-through of college, discovering a love for creative outlets in photography and videography. While originally attending university for music business, I had a lucky, maybe even auspicious occurrence. As part of a standard “book fee” for a particular course, I was given a camera. What began as a simple introduction, quickly unfolded into a passion and during that time, I found myself making connections and introducing myself to new people that I had never dreamed of meeting with.
I guess it shouldn't have been a big surprise that I connected with the art of capturing an image because in a sense I had been immersed in the medium since childhood. My father is a photographer and when I was growing up, I often stood in as the defacto apprentice for him; holding his lenses and flashes while he photographed weddings or special occasions. Even as a child, the joy of helping people realize their beauty was so apparent, I knew that I wanted to follow in my father's footsteps from then on.
As I started out, I primarily focused on music photography. Being in Nashville, music was an obvious choice notwithstanding the long, thrilling and inspiring history of music photography. The idea of a live shot was my first taste of the rush of energy you can find through this artform. As all students of a craft do, I began looking for new frontiers. Like my father before me, I enjoyed working on projects surrounding some of life's paramount moments, like engagements, weddings and other special occasions. Though it wasn't until I discovered fitness photography that I ignited a true passion. Fitness has taken up the better half of my last 4 years and it's safe to say I don’t ever want to look back. Sometimes we find things we are looking for in unexpected places and through the visceral and primal state of the human body engaged in physical activity, I found subjects that are at once, a small miracle, and at times the embodiment of the human spirit. Capturing the true grit and effort that an athlete puts into their sport gave me the greatest sense of thrill and fulfillment that I have experienced behind the lense thus far. Sparking a new chapter in my humble and ever unfolding journey in photography.
Thanks for taking a second to find out a bit about me. Maybe we can get together and create something, I'd love to hear from you.
